Principal Developer - GPU acceleration / AI

Join us as a GPU acceleration / AI Principal Developer and help us accelerate the technical delivery of new digital products related to our scientific programmes, through automation and adoption of first-class infrastructure technologies.

About the Role

As Principal Developer, you will:

  • Lead the ongoing adoption of Ops automation best practices
  • Plan out the technical infrastructure aspects of projects and provide input into product and project management
  • Be agile in your approach
  • Take the technical lead on GPU service design, development and AI service options and best practices.
  • Work with our wider teams to ensure versions of code, operating systems and firmware are up to date and compatible, with a clear maintenance roadmap in place.
  • Help to create, develop and propose future roadmaps
  • Support our current capacity planning within our on-premises infrastructure
  • Work with the team to build and develop performant and maintainable infrastructure and tools
  • Collaborate closely with the security and access management functions
  • Ensure systems are well managed in terms of their service availability, with backup/recovery processes in place, and upgrades scheduled and well-executed.

About You

To succeed in this role, you should have the following:

  • A proven track record of implementing GPU acceleration and AI solutions.
  • Enjoy mentoring, assisting and coaching others.
  • The ability to quickly understand technical and process challenges
  • Comfortable working in a changing environment with the capability to interpret management information to amend plans.
  • Able to prioritise, manage workload, and deliver agreed activities consistently on time.

Essential Skills

  • Significant track record in scripting languages. Python, Java and bash are highly valued. 
  • Demonstrable experience of GPU acceleration and AI/ML development that provides a clear benefit 
  • Experience of DevOps and Agile principles
  • A clear understanding of CUDA, tensorflow and key GPU technologies 
  • A clear understanding of HPC and Unix systems at scale 
  • Experience of operational cybersecurity principles and associated solutions
  • A good working knowledge of cloud architecture 
  • Experience in providing a high-quality customer-focused IT consultancy service 
  • Experience in optimising applications in one or more of the following: Python, Java, Bash or Ruby. 
  • Experience of web services development especially using REST APIs
