Principal/Senior Bioinformatician - Teichmann Group

Looking for an opportunity to demonstrate your computational skills to support research in human health?

The Teichmann lab is seeking enthusiastic and skilled applicants for the post(s) of Senior and Principal Bioinformatician(s) on open-ended contracts to contribute to the group’s research in the general area of the Human Cell Atlas. To perform this research, we make use of state-of-the-art technological advances, including multi-modal single cell genomics (e.g., transcriptomics, chromatin accessibility, and protein expression) and spatial genomics (e.g. 10x visium, FISH, in situ sequencing) technologies. We have access to extensive collections of sample repositories through collaboration with local and international groups. We are significant contributors to the Human Cell Atlas (HCA) and the Human Developmental Cell Atlas, international projects to systematically map all cells in the body across the lifespan. You will have significant opportunities in leading or contributing to publications to help deliver the research portfolio in the Teichmann group. In addition, the Principal Bioinformatician post will include organising grant packages to allow you to lead projects within the Teichmann group field of research. The Principal Bioinformatician role will also be responsible for managing other members of the dry lab team.

 Your primary responsibilities include:

Senior Bioinformatician: -  (Salary range £38,433-£46,039 per annum)

  1.     Analyse large scale multi-modal single cell genomics and spatial genomics data to characterise the cell states  present in the tissue and their communication
  2.     Support and participate in the development of new computational methods to study cellular communication and gene regulatory networks
  3.     Suggest validation strategies to confirm hypotheses and predictions from 1) and 2) above

 Principal Bioinformatician: - (Salary range £46,199-£55,341 per annum)

  1. Leading dry lab staff members in the group
  2. Contributing to group’s scientific and organisational strategy
  3. Analyse large scale multi-modal single cell genomics and spatial genomics data to characterise the cell states present in the tissue and their communication
  4. Support and participate in the development of new computational methods to study cell state, cellular communication and gene regulatory networks
  5. Suggest validation strategies to confirm hypotheses and predictions from 3) and 4) above

Principal Bioinformatician

Technical Skills:

  • PhD in relevant quantitative discipline (e.g. Computational Biology, Genetics, Bioinformatics, Physics, Engineering or Applied Statistics/Mathematics) 
  • Proven understanding and experience in the fields of genomics, data processing and high-throughput data analysis that can be transferable to single cell genomics 
  • Demonstrated expertise in the management and analysis of very large data sets 
  • Experience programming in high level scripting languages (C/C++, R, python)
