Research Assistant - Vallier Team
Salary range: £18,422 to £23027pa plus excellent benefits.
Fixed term contract 12 months with possibility of renewal.
We are seeking a self-motivated and enthusiastic Research Assistant for a role that will be part of Professor Ludovic Vallier’s group at the Sanger Institute. The team studies the basic mechanisms that drive the differentiation of human pluripotent stem cells into endoderm progenitors, from which the pancreas, lung, gut and liver originate.
The specific project on which the post-holder will assist is designed to study genetic risk factors associated with diabetes and utilises single cell sequence analysis of multiple human ipsc lines differentiated into the pancreatic lineage. The individual will be trained in the culture, maintenance and differentiation of induced pluripotent stem cells by experienced staff in the pancreatic genetics team. The post holder will be involved in implementing innovative cell culture protocols and assays to support their project. The role involves significant interaction with other teams at the institute and significant opportunities for development in different technologies will appear
The successful candidate will be an excellent communicator to keep both the team and senior staff fully apprised of progress; they will be expected to take a collaborative and pragmatic approach when planning the work schedules in order to prioritise effectively.
Some weekend cell culture is anticipated in this role.
- BSc in Biology or equivalent experience in laboratory work including running routine cellular analyses
- Expertise in mammalian cell culture
- Ability to follow instructions accurately, efficiently & to work without supervision
- Team oriented approach
- Good troubleshooting ability
- Attention to detail
- Strong communication skills
- Experience in maintenance and differentiation of hIPSCs
- Proven track record in generating and analysing high quality data
