Business Development Manager - Cancer Genomics
Salary range: £38,989 to £49,602, dependent on experience, plus excellent benefits
We are seeking an experienced business development professional with a scientific grounding in genetic research, particularly cancer, ideally with experience of commercialising bioinformatic products and services, aiming to maximise the impact of an expanding translation portfolio.
The Cancer, Ageing and Somatic Mutation group is a global leader in data aggregation, curation and analysis, developing high-throughput cellular models of cancer for genome-wide functional screens and drug testing, as well as exploring basic scientific questions about somatic mutations. Commercial development currently focuses on two major public resources, the COSMIC database (http://cancer.sanger.ac.uk/) and the Genomics of Drug Sensitivity in Cancer programme (http://www.cancerrxgene.org/). The primary role for this new position will be to explore and execute opportunities to maximise the commercial impact of these resources.
This role will provide the successful candidate with the freedom to build their own project portfolio by identifying and developing novel commercial translation opportunities arising from the institute’s cancer activities and more widely from across the institute science.
You will be joining a proactive and supportive tech transfer team, experienced in translating genome and biodata science toward healthcare benefits. The team actively promotes independence, knowledge sharing, and personal development. Strong integration into the COSMIC and GDSC programmes will be essential to success of this role.
- Experience of successfully formulating and implementing business development strategies
- Excellent influencing, written and verbal communication skills
- Proficient in planning and co-ordinating complex translation projects
- Experience of successfully translating science research into commercial opportunities
- Good knowledge of genetics genomics and or cancer research
- Knowledge and understanding of Technology Transfer processes
- PhD in a biological science
- Experience in research across cancer, drug development or clinical oncology
- Experience in commercialisation of bioinformatic products
COSMIC - the Catalogue Of Somatic Mutations In Cancer - is an expert-curated database describing the wide variety of genetic variations associated with all forms of human cancer. A key resource underpinning cancer genetic research, COSMIC provides large high-quality datasets, methods and graphics to scrutinise the genetics causing this disease, giving insights to pharmaceutical design and patient therapies.
