Postdoctoral Fellow (Vento Faculty, Cellular Genetics)
Salary in the region of £31,897 - £39,240 (dependent on experience) plus excellent benefits

We are looking to appoint a highly motivated postdoctoral fellow in immunogenomics, developmental transcriptomics and genetics to join Roser Vento-Tormo’s group at the Wellcome Sanger Institute.
The primary objective is to use genomics, spatial transcriptomics and in vitro assays to map the immune responses against infection across the lifespan. Specifically, the candidate will develop wet and dry techniques to map the communication events during infection and their consequences for fetal development and adult health.
The primary activities will be: i) Acquire material from tissue repositories and coordinate with collaborators to perform wet lab aspects of genomics, spatial transcriptomics and in vitro assays; ii) Perform data analysis of single cell RNA-seq data in collaboration with other team members. The postdoctoral fellow will take the research to conclusion via publication of data in the form of manuscripts and presentations at conferences.
Our lab is also involved in a wide variety of other projects ranging from building a map of the reproductive organs to the development of computational methods to map cell-cell communication (ventolab.org). While the work will be focused on immune response to infection, as key part of our group you will have the opportunity to make important contributions to the full range of research our group is engaged in. In addition, you will be supported to develop your own research projects within the scope of the group’s interests.
This is primarily a training post, with associated responsibility of the faculty team leader and Sanger Institute to ensure training is delivered.
This role may involve occasional work out-of-hours due to the nature of tissue availability.
- PhD in a relevant subject area (e.g. Immunology, Developmental Biology, Genomics, Molecular Biology)
- Expertise in at least one scripting language (R, Python)
- Experience of planning research projects
- Excellent communication skills to allow efficient interactions with collaborators
- Experimental troubleshooting skills
- Experience of writing manuscripts for publication
- Ability to work within a team
- Understanding of ethics of working with human tissue samples
- Experience with organoids
- Experience in histology
- Experience with image data analysis
